Your Ideal Customer Profile
The ICP tells your agent who counts. It sharpens scoring on every platform, and with Sales Navigator it becomes a precise people search.
Keywords find conversations; the ideal customer profile decides whose conversations matter. It has five dimensions: job titles, locations, industries, company types, and company sizes. All are optional, and every one you fill in makes the grading of every lead a little sharper.
One profile, two jobs
- Scoring, everywhere. On every platform, the profile shapes how leads are graded: a VP of Sales venting about your problem space outranks a student asking the same question, because you said so here.
- Search, on LinkedIn. With Sales Navigator connected, the profile drives people search directly: your agent finds the humans matching these exact criteria and brings them in as leads, without waiting for them to post. Options marked Verifiedin the pickers map exactly to LinkedIn's own catalog; free-text entries still guide scoring everywhere.
While you edit, LeadPinger estimates your audience: "about N people match this profile on LinkedIn Sales Navigator." Use it to keep the profile honest: a few hundred people is too narrow to sustain a pipeline, hundreds of thousands means the profile is not really deciding anything.
Start broad, tighten with evidence
The classic mistake is over-specifying on day one. Start with the two dimensions you are surest of (usually titles and company size), run a week, then look at Insights: the ICP fit breakdown shows which titles and industries your best leads actually carry, which is often a surprise worth listening to.
Advanced filters
- Additional criteria: free-text requirements the AI applies when judging fit, up to 300 characters. Sub-industries, cities, exclusions: "no agencies, US and Canada only, e-commerce brands doing 7 figures".
- Exclude service providers: filters out freelancers, consultants and agencies, the people selling to your market rather than buying in it.
- Skip ICP scoring: keyword-only mode. Leads are found and graded on what they said, without profile matching. Useful when your buyer truly could be anyone.
- Include "open to work" profiles: off by default; job seekers engage a lot and buy rarely.
